Sixteen people are feared dead in a gory accident at Gomoa Okyereko on the Accra-Cape Coast highway in the Central Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred after a head-on collision between a petrol tanker and a bus at about 5 am on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bus was travelling from Abidjan to Buduburam while the tanker was filled with petrol, travelling from Accra heading towards Takoradi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An eyewitness told the Ghana National Fire Service that the Yutong bus driver occasionally veered off his lane all through the trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo he [tanker driver] rather came into the lane of the Yutong because at the time the Yutong driver had also entered his lane,\u201d the Winneba Fire Service Commander DO II Kwesi Hughes said on\u00a0JoyNews<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact was great on the passenger sides of both vehicles, a situation which got \u201cthe tanker driver mashed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fire Service Commander explained that \u201cother passengers on the passenger side of the Yutong were also dismembered, in fact, they were cut into pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the AM Show, he clarified, \u201cWe have been able to rescue the rescuable lives first, which we have done. We have sent them to the trauma and specialist hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest have been sent to a municipal hospital nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, the road has been blocked to traffic as security agencies on-site work around the clock to restore normalcy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have been able to tow the Yutong bus to a place of safety. And currently, we are receiving the lifeless body of the driver\u2019s mate after which we will tow the tanker to a place of safety as well so that we will be able to open the traffic,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That stretch has been described as a hotspot for road accidents over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
