The regional manager of Augustin farms, Alhaji Nankpa Jibiliru has called for immediate unionization of Agribusiness organizations in the Sissala area of the Upper West Region to fight the canker of non-payment at the end of the farming season by farmers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two sister Sissala districts, Tumu municipal and Sissala West District are noted for the massive cultivation and supply of maize and other cereal crops to feed Ghana and her neighbors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Nankpa Jibiliru revealed this in a live interview on Gwollu FM 91.7mhz, on Friday 11th August, 2023, to him, the negative behavior of some farmers has chased away many Agribusiness companies including Masara N’Arziki in the enclave which negatively affects genuine farmers as well as the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, many Agribusiness companies are operating in the Sissala area, three among them are owned by natives including Augustine’s Farms, led by Nankpa Jibiliru, Farmer Pride led by Doho Sumaila and Gouhoubelle Agribusiness (GAB) led by John Dimah. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These companies are into farming and also engage small holder farmers by supplying inputs, “green loans” and other services, and at the end of the season, farmers pay back base on preseason negotiated contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, these companies have faced various challenges which led to the withdrawal of many from the districts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Non payment is the major problem facing companies in the area. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alhaji Nankpa revealed how some farmers have been ungrateful to their partners, according to him. “A farmer invited me to come and weigh his recovery maize at the village the next morning, I quickly mobilize and arrived with my team at the community exactly 6:00am the very morning. By then, the farmer had sold all the maize the previous night and fled the community,” he bemoan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate change is also another factor, <\/strong>this consists of heavy or low rainfall in a season, Bush fires, fall army worm invasion, gemination failure among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mr Nankpa Jibiliru, he has initiated his own local mechanisms to curb the dubious behavior of farmers by initiating the three prominent guarantor system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During registration, if you do not meet his by-laws, you wouldn’t be eligible, he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 43-year old professional teacher and commercial farmer, Mr Nankpa Jibiliru shared a brief of his profile and his recent experience in the shores of the Saudi Arabia during his hajj. <\/p>\n\n\n

He successfully completed and proceeded to teacher training college at Tumu and completed successfully in 2004. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Nankpa calls for the immediate initiation of a common platform within the Agribusiness companies operating in the Sissala area to enable ease tracking of the individual farmers. <\/p>\n\n\n

According to him, defaulting farmers can deliberately jump from a company to another in other to escape recovery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further suggests each of the companies should have the full list of the other companies operating in same geographical jurisdiction membership in order to curb double registration so others can also enjoy the package. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Alhaji Nankpa Jibiliru, if this is done, it can go a long way to guarantee sustainability of the agribusiness in the Sissala area to boost the small holder farmers, especially women to see farming as a business. <\/p>\n\n\n
