Wc Hdgi - afro/dancehall artist, Ghana

A top award winning and sensational Upper West Afro/Dancehall Artist, WC Hadgi voices out his lamentations for having low social media recognition and insufficient followers in his social media handles.

The Ghanaian styling afro/dancehall messiah Alendu Wachiebine popularly known in showbiz as WC Hadgi from Wasai community in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region. WC Hadgi made this and other revelations 2nd May 2023, during a live interview with the only community radio station situated in the district, Gwollu FM 91.7MHz.

According to WC Hadgi, he stamped his name in the Upper West music industry in 2016 and won several awards but currently based in Accra, Ghana. He is quoted as saying “Yu nu aahhm, anyone who has been following our industry quite some time now knows, if you should mention aahm, apart from Wiyaala or Black Rasta if you should mention any Sisaala artist, if you mention any three artists without WC Hadgi you might not be fair”.

He further flaunted the fusion in of the afro beat not playing basically dancehall alone, “I mean we are all Africans and sometimes we have to connect to our roots”, he fumes.

Interestingly, many awards won by the legend WC Hadgi are centred on his geographical demarcation, Upper West Region and the Sissala land between the periods of 2016 to 2020.

Among his trophies are; Sissala Music Awards (SMA) 2016 Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year, 2016 SMA New Artist of the Year, 2016 PRUMAS Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year, 2016 PRUMAS Highlife of the year, 2017 SMA Artist of the year, 2017 SMA Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year, 2020 Sissala Entertainment Awards (SEA) Dancehall/Song Artist of the Year, 2020 SEA Music video of the year among others including citations.

After winning these many awards, Hadgi thought it wise to go back to studio and concentrate on content and fun base establishments which seems not to be a workable solution to his music business.

WC Hadgi also revealed during the interview that he was denied collaboration by management of huge and well established artists from Zimbabwe because of the number of followers on his social media. Indicating that Atongo ever invited him to his house but could not honour the invitation which he regretted later for his inability to make time to meet the legend.

He informed the listening public that he met Atongo Zimba during a Djimba Music Festival show that was organized in the Upper West Region Wa by Wiyaala in 2018.

According to him, he requested for Atongo’s contact and he rather asked him to give out his number to contact him which he did in early 2019 and went ahead to invite him to his abode in one weekend but as young artist he could not attend the invitation.

“You know as young artist sometimes instead for me to be humble and respond to opportunities like this, we often feel we are there already or probably the name is getting so big and we tend not to take such opportunities serious. later I realized I did a very big mistake and I wanted to get back to him but then, he didn’t have time for me too. That’s very true and I regret it”.

He further hinted that he had two main collaboration music with two different Zimbabwean Artists, from there, a friend of his approached him and revealed he really liked his music and so he spoke to one Artist Management Team in Zimbabwe. After which he shared his music content to them and they were so much interested in them working together after listening. He said a WhatsApp group was subsequently formed for the said project, on which each artist shared their social media handles including Facebook and YouTube so that they could all monitor the progress of each other. “In fact he is a well established artist based in Zimbabwe and I felt so hurt that I do not want to mention his name on air to hype his brand“.

“In recent times people are looking more into social media and it was used against me, I was talented, I have all the things I was poised to have collaboration with him yet my numbers were very few on social media. Once his management did not allow this to happen, I do not like to mention his name in promoting his works, but this is what happened, because I have few numbers and he overlooked the talent and all that. So I lost such opportunity”.

WC Hadgi also alleged that many social media followers, subscribers and likes are bought and so are fake. Against this backdrop, he tried having not less than ten core fun base that are dedicated to listening to his music to the fake social media numbers, though he admitted social media numbers are good for business purposes. Aside local radio stations like Gwollu FM 91.7mhz, the Upper West Afro/Dancehall messiah also used social media to express his frustrations.

It must be placed on record that WC Hadgi who is happily married and blessed with one daughter, the wife is a professional tutor in second cycle schools in Ghana.

He is also a multi-talented artist who does not only do the singing but also a movie actor in African movies, who has played diverse roles in Domajuosu Multimedia Work industry (dmediagh.com) as well as Awusunleh film production.
