
Amidu Issahaku Chinnia - MP and deputy minister - Sissala East MP
The member of parliament (MP) for Sissala East Constituency who double as the Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Mr Amidu Chinnia Issahaku revealed that he has acquired a state of the arts rice mill to be installed in Tumu, the Municipal Capital of the Sissala East Municipality in the Upper West Region.
This is in fulfilment of his promises to establish a farm mechanization concept in the run-up to the 2020 general elections.
The Member of parliament made this revelation through his Facebook handle on Friday 9th June, 2023.
“I am happy to announce that I have secured some farm machinery to start the establishment of the mechanization concept. I am happy to state that I have acquired the state of the arts rice mill which is currently in Tumu”.
People in the Sissala area are predominantly farmers and depend largely on cultivation of crops for their livelihood and education of their children.
The Tumu areas is said to be the food basket of Ghana, where maize and other crops like soybeans and groundnut are largely produce.
According to Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, the major component of the concept is to provide farming services, hence, aims at promoting Agriculture in the constituency when initiated.
Hon. Chinnia indicated that he intends to prioritize and promote rice in the constituency and the country at large and hence would be supporting the whole rice value chain from production to consumption. He said.
“A major innovation of the plan is the deliberate decision to concentrate on promoting rice production, in this regard, we will support the whole rice value chain from production to consumption”.
The Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources reiterated that he is in the process of developing the structure and installation of the mill and assured that Tumu will start milling high grade rice for consumption.
“I have started the mechanization process and by the grace of God, I will build on what I have started and it will grow from strength to strength”.
“I will continue to serve the good people of Sissala East well”.
The construction and installation according to him, will start in July and the plan is to start milling between December 2023 and January 2024.
The MP also revealed during an interview with dmediagh.com that he is supporting some one hundred farmers in the constituency to cultivate rice this farming season as part of his mechanization programme.
“I am supporting one hundred (100) farmers with one acre each in rice this year and the produce will be purchased from the farmers for the test milling. Once it’s successful next farming season we will enrol more farmers to produce enough to feed the plant”.
Hon. Amidu Chinnia Issahaku added that, there are some stall projects in the constituency that he is battling with to either complete or make progress on them, mention can be made of the Tumu town roads, the first Astro Turf in Tumu and the Tumu water system which he pledged to complete early this year, and various CHPS compounds as well as classroom blocks dotted across the constituency.
