Sources available on social media indicates there have been reported movements of suspected jihadists in the Nakong forest in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region in the past four days, security sources have confirmed.
The source on facebook sited by Dmedia News further elaborated below,
”Below are a few details I have, so far, been able to gather.
The suspects usually arrive in the forest at dusk in dozens on motorcycles and ring gunshots throughout the night.
The suspects then leave in the morning and ride further into the forest towards River Sissili, concealing every piece of evidence their way back.
The suspects come into contact with locals, but there have not been reported deaths or damage to property. A local told the security services that the suspects once parked their motorcycles loaded with guns near his farm.
As at yesterday 17th June, 2023, a joint force of the security services led by the Military arrived in the area in two armoured vehicles in combat efforts. The security services have since being combing the forest for every possible trace of the suspects.
Community members have been urged to stay alert, with hunters being asked to minimize their activities in the forest”.
More details soon.
