Kuoru Babukwie Bajor Limann V - Gwollu Paramount Chief
Following the of passing of late Gwollu Kuoru and Paramount Chief of Gwollu Traditional Area, lawyer Kuri Buktie Limann IV on 2nd May, 2024, his immediate successor emerged from the same Limann family and another chief was immediately enskinned after his final Islamic funeral rites on 29th June, 2024.
Gwollu is the district capital of the Sissala West District in the Upper West Region and shares boundaries with neighboring Burkina Faso.
The Sissala West comprises three (3) paramountcies, Gwollu Paramountcy, Pulima Paramountcy and Zini Paramountcy.
Mr Babukwie Bajor Limann V was then enskinned as the Chief of Gwollu succeeding his late uncle sacred throne on the 6th of July, 2024 by the people of Gwollu.
Later, his name was officially gazetted into the National House of Chiefs Register at Kumasi on 18th December, 2025 with serial number 2845 as Gwollu Kuoru and Paramount Chief following the declaration of the death of Kuoru Kuri Buktie Limann IV dated 2nd May, 2024 by the National House of Chiefs. The gazette was certified on 8th January, 2026.
Gwollu Paramouncy is one of the largest paramouncies, which consists of seventeen (17) communities, namely, Gwollu, Nyimati, Bullu, Kusali, Jawia, Lipleme, Kunkorgu, Kwalla, Paana, Kuni, Duwie, Kuntulo, Gbal, Timmie, Jeffisi, Dasima and Gbelle.
Kuoru Babukwie Bajor Limann V was officially sworn in as Gwollu Kuoru and Paramount Chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area on 25th May, 2026 together with his colleagues Funsi paramount chief, Kuoru Adibibe Dagbasi Basuglo Sampuo III and Jirapa Paramount Chief, Naa Dinaa Donglabong Ganaa III by the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs.
He expressed his heart-felt appreciation message openly to the people through local community radio broadcast on Gwollu FM 91.7mhz. “I wish to express my sincere appreciation and profound gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of my swearing-in as Gwollu Kuoru and Paramount Chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area on the 25th May, 2026 at the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs”.
Kuoru Babukwie Bajor Limann V further extend his gratitude message to the Members of Council of Sissala Chiefs; Tumu Kuoru, Zini Kuoru, Pulima Kuoru etc for their invaluable support and wise counsel.
He concluded by requesting for peace, unity and harmony for a common development of the paramountcy and the Gwollu Community. ‘As I assume this sacred responsibility, I wish to use this opportunity to urge all my people to continue to uphold peace, unity and harmony. Together, let us work towards the development and progress of the Gwollu Traditional Area and beyond’, he said.
